Some worry about preserving the characteristics of an older neighborhood.  Stock home plan sites allow you to search for your new home by architectural style as well as size and amenities.  Whether your neighborhood consists of Victorian, Craftsman, or Prairie style homes, you can enjoy blending in with the existing structures while also having modern features inside.

Buying a teardown may have drawbacks.  It takes longer to build your new home.  In addition to demolition, utilities must be shut down and inspections must be made.  There may be hazardous materials that require special permits or disposal.  The additional work results in additional costs.
