From the article:

The laundry room is often the most unorganized room in the house. There is after all, so much stuff that has to be piled in there and so many products that you have to store. If your laundry room looks like a disaster area, we have a great collection of 30 ways to organize it.

Not only can you get everything organized, we’ve got great ways to add storage, too. So, if you want to store additional items away and out of sight, you can take advantage of these great storage options.

Your laundry room will be clean and well-organized and your life a bit easier. You know you need to organize that room so why not start with these great DIYs and products that we’ve found to help make that organization just a bit easier.

Some of them can be made with things that you may have lying around the house, which makes them effective and cheap. Let’s get started on organizing the laundry room so that you can save a bit of time when it comes to getting the laundry done and give yourself a little peace of mind while you’re at it.

Rolling Laundry Basket Dresser
8-basket-dresser
This rolling laundry basket dresser is a great way to organize the laundry room and save yourself a bit of time when doing laundry. You can presort your clothes in the baskets and it can easily be rolled from room to room for picking up the family’s laundry. It’s easy to build and perfectly holds three laundry baskets so you have space for three different loads. Plus, when you’re not rolling it around, the top could be used for additional storage. If you need someplace to organize those baskets full of dirty laundry, this is a great choice.

Washer and Dryer Pedestals
13-makeover
If you don’t yet have pedestals under your washer and dryer, now is the time to get them. And, you don’t have to pay a small fortune for them, either. You can actually build them yourself. Pedestals are great for storing all sorts of things in the laundry room. You can either build them with drawers or make it a bite easier on yourself and just leave them open. You can keep baskets of laundry or baskets of cleaning and laundry supplies in the cubbies. These are so easy to make and utilize space that you normally wouldn’t think of which is key in keeping things organized.

Slide Out Storage Tower
1-slim-slide
This slide out tower is actually made for the kitchen but we think it would be a wonderful addition to the laundry room. If you have a bit of space between the washer and dryer, you can just slide this right in there. It’s wide enough to hold most cleaning supplies and you can even keep your laundry detergent, stain fighters and dryer sheets on it, too. Instead of piling those things sky high on a shelf, stick them away in that little bit of wasted space between your laundry room appliances. It has casters so it will slide in and out easily and just think of the organizing that you can do with it.

Sock Saver
17-sock
You know those mismatched socks that you have laying on the dryer? The ones that you just can never find the mates to? Instead of losing socks and having to forever look for the proper matches, use these neat little sock savers and never lose those socks again. All you need are mesh lingerie bags, enough so that everyone in the family can have one. When they take off their socks, just have them place them into their own little bag. When the bags are full, you can wash them and the best part is, you can wash the bag as well. You just throw the entire bag into the washer and the socks stay inside. You’ll never spend hours hunting down socks again and you can get rid of that mismatched sock pile in the laundry room.

From the article:

My husband and I are prepping to tear down our terribly ugly (and sort of already falling down) detached garage real soon, so it got us thinking about all the things we can do with the extra space we will have in our tiny backyard! We definitely need a patio to entertain and host dinners in the summer, but will we do pavers or lay down some concrete? Maybe stones with pebbles filling in the cracks? Should we just go with grass? What about a covered area since it rains 9 months of the year in Portland? So many decisions to make and that’s what this weeks DIY inspiration is all about. Take that boring patio from blah to wow! Check out the inspiration below to get started on your own patio transformation.

From the article:

SolTech Energy, a Swedish company selling solutions for clean solar power, has developed a unique home heating system contained within roofing tiles made out of ordinary transparent glass. The attractive house-warming tiles (somewhat ironically) give roofs a beautiful, icy appearance quite unlike anything else we’ve ever seen before.

So what makes the system so special and award worthy? For starters, the tiles are made from ordinary glass and have about the same weight as those made of clay. Secondly, the system doesn’t, like competitors’ versions, heat up water or vacuum pipes, but clean air. The tiles are installed on top of a black nylon canvas, under which air slots are mounted. The black colour absorbs heat from the sun and the air starts to circulate. The hot air is then used to heat up water, which is connected to the house’s heating system via an accumulator. The beauty of the system is that it cuts energy costs throughout the year, during dark winter days as well as night time, due to its capacity to store heat in the isolating layers of air under the canvas.

From the article:

Whether you’’re splurging on a rare natural stone or standing by classic porcelain, choosing a tile type is only part of the design decision. The way the tile is installed also matters. To help you figure out the best layout for your kitchen, bathroom and beyond, here are some of the most popular options.

Mosaics
While the word “mosaic” may bring to mind complex forms that create lively patterns and images, in design terms a mosaic is simply any small tile in a repeated shape (or set of shapes), typically attached in small sheets to matting for easy installation. A very common example is a 1-inch by 1-inch square, although endless shapes and patterns are available.

Mosaics are more common for accent areas (rather than full-height walls), because they require more grout. This means they can require more maintenance if exposed to heavy soil or moisture, which can be an issue in mildew-prone bathrooms.

However, they can create a rich and subtle multi-tonal effect that has the appeal of luxe stone without the luxe cost, making them a popular backsplash option.

In the case of a shower stall floor, the additional grout can be a benefit, as it helps create a less slippery surface.

In general, mosaic makes a great counterpoint to larger tiles, because the dramatic shift in scale makes the mismatch clearly intentional. (Here a hexagonal mosaic beautifully contrasts oversize Corian planks.)

When to use a mosaic layout: To highlight an accent wall, on a shower floor or lining a niche.

Herringbone
A herringbone pattern is achieved by laying tiles at right angles into zigzag formations or by a preformed mosaic. Either way, the look is sophisticated and has high-end appeal, even with a simple material. However, this pattern will inevitably require additional cutting of tiles at the borders, so it can create some extra material waste.

he angular nature of this pattern creates a dynamic energy, which can be perfect for accent walls but a little overwhelming if used on too large a surface.

Where to use a herringbone layout: In a traditional or transitional kitchen (especially in classic white on white), or with a long, thin tile to form a powerful accent anywhere.
